The centre is being described as "phygital" in that it combines both physical and digital elements using globally proven experiences of developing breakthrough innovation outcomes.
Called the Flame Station, it is housed in the old SAB building between Liberty's Braamfontein head office and the University of the Witwatersrand .

The intention is to nurture the rapid development of small startups solving meaningful problems, which create the opportunity to be funded by interested venture capitalists or corporates.
Wits, as the first partner to collaborate with the innovation impact centre, plan to leverage off their business and computer science students alongside academia to develop a number of new solutions, using groundbreaking technologies like quantum computing.
